Firehouse Worcester MA June 21 2013

The Firehouse is an underground performance place in Worcester MA. All ages are welcome & you have to know someone to really know where it is located.  This was my first time there and didn’t know what to expect. I was looking forward to seeing local band Goddard again & finally getting a chance to see Giraffes? Giraffes! This evening was Goddard/Giraffes? Giraffes! split 10″ Record release show with three other bands opening. (TremarcheMotel MattressJane Eyre from New York). All the bands were entertaining but was very impressed with all the sounds that Giraffes? Giraffes! created with just two people and that they could recreate the studio sound live.

This song reminds me of Adrian Belew era King Crimson and is a great example of their style:

As this is not a proper venue , there were no stage lights. Some white floods were placed on some of the sets but some bands preferred complete darkness. I was surprised to see so many other photographers there who were more familiar w/ the setup and darted in & out w/ flashes or setup behind the band to get their unique angles.  The flash is distracting for the performer & the audience . I like to show what the audience would have seen dim, motion, smoke, booze, rock n roll!! The Nikon 600 has some amazing low light capabilities & this set shows what can be done in less than perfect lighting conditions.
