Hüsker Dü Hartford Agora March 21,1987

From the archives. 25+ years old! This was one of the most popular sets on the original web site & still gets much attention on flickr.

Shot Kodak 400 film on a Minolta Maxxum 7000. Bob Mould was so cool to let me, a fan roam the stage when Husker Du had a tour photographer at the show. Top 10 show for the thrill of being ON stage & watching the crowd & being blown away by the mastery of the material of one of my favorite bands of all time. — at West Hartford Ballroom/Agora.

The image above has a special place in my heart. Fred & I had seen them at UMASS earlier on the tour and posing as the college press got invited backstage. When we arrived at the Agora the tour manager recognized us and gave us backstage passes. I was able to shoot from the sides and freely roam backstage to get both sides of the stage. The venue was packed and it deterred me from entering the pit.

About 6 month later the tour brought them back to CT to Toad’s Place in New Haven. We arrived early and I had brought a big book of photos from this set. We caught the soundcheck (I cant explain cover!) & the tour manager brought Bob out to check out the photos. Bob loves the pics especially the 8×10 of the ‘secret’ whammy.. face into the Marshall. He said that no-one had ever captured that before, the tour photographer was mostly in the pit & fans never got to see this unique angle.
