History of the name:
Artrocity was founded back in 1986 to book bands in to Hartford clubs. Its unique name stands for Art Rock City. Originally a team of two players, Artrocity’s main voice Fred, was the booking agent who shmoozed the bands and the bar owners into believing that a local rock scene could thrive in Hartford. When they all believed the scene flourished. When they stopped believing it died. Typical situation. Me, I’m Joe Photographer. Lots of black & white developed in the basement, then sent out as promo & xeroxed up for fliers for the next gigs. Fred moved onto better things & then passed in 2004. I kept the name as my online persona & have been using it to promote my rock n roll photography.

I have been taking photos since I was a child but never formally trained. Pinhole camera, instamatics, disc, all before leaving grade school. First real cameras were a Minolta Maxxum 5000 & 7000. Many miles were put on those before I got a photography ‘job’ taking family photos w/ a Mamiya c220. A bunch of early digitals by Kodak, Canon before I splurged on a Nikon D70 but as the tech got better I lost interest in the race and many years later thought that a Canon G12 would be a good compromise. It didn’t take long before I knew I needed a real camera and just bought the Nikon D600 to utilize some of the glass from the D70. Falling in love w/ photography again! My best images seem to come from passion. Whether its the love of my life, my sweet cats, the beauty of the outdoors or being uplifted by music.
